Subclass 884 – Contributory Aged Parent Visa (Temporary):

This visa caters to individuals who are the aged parent of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. Individuals must meet the age requirement. This visa allows for a stay of approximately 2 years. This is a pathway to permanent residency by way of a subclass 864 visas.

You may travel to and from Australia as many times as you require.
You may be eligible to apply for the subclass 864 permanent visa.
You may make your application for this visa while you are inside of Australia.

To satisfy the balance of the family test, parents must have at least half of all their children lawfully and permanently residing in Australia. The age requirement will be gradually increased from 65 to 67 depending on the year the applicant was born.
